Coconut Oil Hair Tutorial

After my last post about growing out my hair I had a lot of you ask me about how I use the coconut oil.
Silly me, I forgot to mention that part!
My bad
I used to do this last year, but it's just so time consuming that sometimes I put it off.
Now that I am trying to get my hair long for the wedding, I've been asking around what other people are doing. My friends hair has grown a ton, and she swears it's the coconut oil.
So here we go!
This is a hair mask, that goes on your hair, no...you don't eat it
(although I've heard it's good for you if you do)
The whole process takes awhile, so I do mine on the weekend when I have more time.
I try to do this once a week

Start by spooning out the coconut oil in a bowl. A little goes a long way especially after you melt it, but I have thick hair so I use quite a bit.
It should look like this

Make sure it's in a microwave safe bowl, and put it in for about 30-45 seconds
Just enough to get it to melt, but not too long or it will be hot and you will burn yourself.
When you take it out of the microwave it will look like this- the clumps end up melting so as long as there aren't a ton of them, you're okay!

Because I have thicker hair, I like to divide my hair into parts like this

Here comes the dipping part, start with your ends (soak them) like this
Notice how I put a towel underneath? This shiz gets messy! Just FYI

Once you've soaked the ends, start combing through the rest of your hair with the oil. I use my hands instead of a comb and I just make sure my hair is brushed through before I start.
Do this method with all the hair on your head
Make sure your hair is soaked with it, I even end up pouring the bowl on my head over the sink afterwards just in case.

Once you're done, grab a hair tie and make a bun on the very top of your head.

To stop it from dripping down your neck, wrap it in a shower cap, plastic bag or even a towel if you want.
Now...set your timer for at LEAST one hour.
IF you have are a morning person & you like to get up early you can sleep with this on, just put a towel on your pillow.

When the timer goes off, jump in the shower....or wash your hair, whatever you decide.
In my opinion, getting your hair wet before you put shampoo in it makes it more oily so I immediately start by putting shampoo on my hair before I even get my hair wet.
Then, I shampoo
Rinse
and shampoo one more time
and then condition...etc
I shampoo twice just to get all the extra oil out. No one likes an oily scalp :/

Coconut oil makes your hair shiny, super soft, and it has helped my split ends tremendously!
It might also be part of the reason my hair is growing faster and healthier...who knows.

Let it Grow

Let it grow! Let it growwww!
(anyone else singing the song from Frozen right now?)
haha, that song immediately popped into my head when I wrote the title for this post.
Anyway!
I thought I'd document the journey to getting long hair.
Every woman wishes their hair would grow faster, and then we end up cutting it because we get impatient or it just ends up splitting at the ends.
BLAH
Well, as most of you, I'm getting married in four months and one of my goals is to have long(er) hair, So I thought I'd try these products

1. Coconut Oil from the shelves of your local grocery store (organic is better but I haven't got it yet)
2. Prenatals, they don't have to be gummies but I like them better... don't judge me
3. "Not Your Mother's Way To Grow" Conditioner, found at Walgreens
4. Hairfinity click here to find out more

Let's be honest, I wish I could just take all of these tablets in one day and wake up like Rapunzel and chop it to my desired length. Wouldn't that be nice?

So far.... these are my results

I'm actually really impressed, my hair never grows this fast!
I really couldn't tell you what is working better since I'm using all of the products above.
Although, prenatals and hairfinity have TONS of vitamins, and the hairfinity has 2500mcg of Biotin.
Coconut oil is really good for your hair though, it makes it really soft and shiny too.
I was asked to try out "It works! Hair, skin & nails" and give a review. I'll be starting that when I'm done with Hairfinity to compare the two...and i'll post my results soon :)
