Give someone a Happy Christmas

It's that time of the year again!
Get those trees out, hang the lights, pull out the christmas movies, start shopping and
grab that cup of hot cocoa and snuggle next to your honey on the couch and watch The Grinch.
Enjoy that time with your family & your friends, enjoy the smiles on the faces of children, enjoy it all. Just promise me as you are enjoying this Christmas, that you stop and really count your blessings. Stop and realize how blessed you are to have a home, a Christmas tree, presents under the tree & a family to spend it with. Once you've counted your blessings, find someone who doesn't have as much as you and make there "ordinary" Christmas a happy one, and the best one they've ever had.
The other day as I was decorating I was listening to Christmas music and this song came on...
(I couldn't find the video, so it's just the song)

I couldn't help to think of how blessed I am, but also think about all those who are struggling during this time of year. Not only are there wars all around the world, there is a war going on right now with a family in your community. Maybe they're going through a divorce, or they had a death in the family, or they just lost their job and can't afford gifts for their children. In every community (maybe even your neighborhood) there's a "scrooge" whether it's a widow or just a single man/woman, and you might not be able to get their heart to grow two sizes like the Grinch, but you can do something to help them through the holidays.

Deliver food, or a plate of baked goods, shovel their snowy driveway, or be a secret santa and leave little presents on the porch. There is always a way to cheer up someones day, and there's always someone to help around you. Even though we can't stop the war, and we can't stop the fights, we can be there for someone else, we can pay it forward, and we can make a difference in someones life.
We can give someone a Happy Christmas.
"So this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
Yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight"

Here are just three ways you can find a family in need;
1. Many charity places, churches, Salvation army..etc look for hosts for families in need.
2. Search online using your city & state, check United Way for a list of charities/groups
3. Bigger department stores or malls usually have an "Angel Tree" with information for a famiy/child in need this Christmas.
"War is over

If you want it
War is over
Now"
Will you join me this year in finding a family in need? Will you find the "scrooge" in your neighborhood and do a service for him/her? What will you do to rediscover the real spirit of Christmas?

  1. I recently saw your post about sending boxes to the Salvation Army and I think it's awesome that you have such a great tradition like this with your kids, if only everyone taught their children how to think of others first the world would be lot different ha ha
