Highlights of the Kirk's weekend

This weekend went by way too fast, like most do, but we enjoyed the beautiful weather that god has blessed us with!
It was 70-80 degrees all weekend with a slight breeze so I tried to spend a lot of time outside.
Down the street from us is a walking park, I wanted to enjoy the weather so I took our dog Chance for a little "mile" walk. 3 laps is considered a mile at this park, and my dog was about to give up on the 2nd lap. Hilarious. Poor little guy...
I tried running...and realized I still hate it, and I'm too out of shape.
Chance also hated that idea...
Anyway, I got a little picture happy with my iPhone, everything looked so beautiful!!

On Sunday, we had our engagement pictures done by
  ShaiLynn Photography (click for website)
she drove 3 hours out here, and then we drove another hour to our destination.
She's amazing! If you're in the Salt Lake area, check her out!
This was my "can't wait to get our engagements done, but first let me take a selfie" pic on the way to our pictures.
AND here's a little sneak peek for your viewing pleasure :)

Oh heyyyyy future husby
Check him out!! HOTTIE!!!
What you doin later!?
Can't believe I get to marry that handsome man in 95 DAYS!
This is just ONE of the many amazing pictures,
I absolutely love them and can't wait to see & share more!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Keep checking back for more "teaser" pics :)

Foundation fave

Just a quick little post about how much I love this foundation I've been using.
First, you should know that I am not one to spend a lot of money on makeup, I hate that when I go to Walmart, foundation is like $8. It's cheap to some of you, but I hate spending money on makeup.
Well, back in February we went to Salt Lake and I forgot my makeup (genius I know) so I had to go grab some quick essentials.
I had been hating my foundation lately, it wasn't covering, and it was oily.
Yuck
We were at the mall, and we were running out of time and I saw Sephora, and I swear that store was glowing unlike it ever has before. I talked myself into it, talked to a makeup artist who knew what she was talking about (I hoped) and grabbed this foundation and left.
Okay, I also grabbed an eyeshadow pallete because it was a good deal.
I'm a sucker
Anyway!
I made it out of there with this beauty

Except this isn't even close to the color I got, I'm super white, almost transluscent
so I use the 2nd to lightest called "Light Ivory."
This color works great because it matches my skin tone so well that I can use it just on the places I want and I don't have to cover my entire face.
It's perfect, it lasts long, and it's thick enough to cover up freckles and blemishes but not so thick that I feel like I caked on my makeup. It's breathable, it's not oily, and it's my favorite.
Besides the fact that it's $20, oh well...
10 Hours is great for me, and if you need longer coverage than that, go with a primer.
My friend recently blogged about this amazing primer, so I went online and bought it when it was 50% off! STEAL.

Have a great Easter weekend!

Coconut Oil Hair Tutorial

After my last post about growing out my hair I had a lot of you ask me about how I use the coconut oil.
Silly me, I forgot to mention that part!
My bad
I used to do this last year, but it's just so time consuming that sometimes I put it off.
Now that I am trying to get my hair long for the wedding, I've been asking around what other people are doing. My friends hair has grown a ton, and she swears it's the coconut oil.
So here we go!
This is a hair mask, that goes on your hair, no...you don't eat it
(although I've heard it's good for you if you do)
The whole process takes awhile, so I do mine on the weekend when I have more time.
I try to do this once a week

Start by spooning out the coconut oil in a bowl. A little goes a long way especially after you melt it, but I have thick hair so I use quite a bit.
It should look like this

Make sure it's in a microwave safe bowl, and put it in for about 30-45 seconds
Just enough to get it to melt, but not too long or it will be hot and you will burn yourself.
When you take it out of the microwave it will look like this- the clumps end up melting so as long as there aren't a ton of them, you're okay!

Because I have thicker hair, I like to divide my hair into parts like this

Here comes the dipping part, start with your ends (soak them) like this
Notice how I put a towel underneath? This shiz gets messy! Just FYI

Once you've soaked the ends, start combing through the rest of your hair with the oil. I use my hands instead of a comb and I just make sure my hair is brushed through before I start.
Do this method with all the hair on your head
Make sure your hair is soaked with it, I even end up pouring the bowl on my head over the sink afterwards just in case.

Once you're done, grab a hair tie and make a bun on the very top of your head.

To stop it from dripping down your neck, wrap it in a shower cap, plastic bag or even a towel if you want.
Now...set your timer for at LEAST one hour.
IF you have are a morning person & you like to get up early you can sleep with this on, just put a towel on your pillow.

When the timer goes off, jump in the shower....or wash your hair, whatever you decide.
In my opinion, getting your hair wet before you put shampoo in it makes it more oily so I immediately start by putting shampoo on my hair before I even get my hair wet.
Then, I shampoo
Rinse
and shampoo one more time
and then condition...etc
I shampoo twice just to get all the extra oil out. No one likes an oily scalp :/

Coconut oil makes your hair shiny, super soft, and it has helped my split ends tremendously!
It might also be part of the reason my hair is growing faster and healthier...who knows.
Go try it out and click here to learn more ways to use coconut oil!
