Do what you love

  "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life."
I'm here to tell you how true that is, and tell you my story because you might be in the same place in your life. For those of you who know me, I've been in retail about 8-10 years of my "working" life, mostly fashion retail. I've worked at Maurices, and the Buckle and I even managed for the Buckle for a little less than a year. Was it my calling? Honestly, I thought it was, but when I started managing I realized really quick that it wasn't, but being in retail was. It's hard to go through your life not knowing your calling, and maybe I still don't actually know it, but I do know one thing.

I am so passionate about fashion retail, I LOVE helping people find outfits, I love inspiring people to step outside of their comfort zone & wear something that compliments their body, feeling confident and feeling beautiful. It's been almost three years since I've been in retail, so what did I do? Well, even though I work a 9-5 job every week, I get bored at nights or on weekends when my husband is working, we don't have kids so there really isn't anything for me to do. If I could get into remodeling projects, or sewing..I probably wouldn't have started doing these other things on the side, but it's just not me. I went into Maurices one day and talked to the manager about possibly working a few hours a week, as soon as I got hired and worked my first shift it was like a mood changer. I was so happy, and I love it! It didn't matter if I worked 9-5 and then 6-9 at Maurices it was like I got this wave of energy and passion instead of just going home and cooking dinner & watching TV until we went to bed. If there's something that you love doing but it doesn't pay the bills, or you don't have time for it, MAKE time, I'm telling you, doing something you love to do is a life changer.

Another thing I figured out I'm passionate about is graphic design, I've always loved it. Designing flyers, business logos, cards...etc so I started learning more about blog design, and loved it. I recently started offering blog design, not from start to finish and I'm no professional but I'd much rather do it myself than teach someone how to do it (another reason I wasn't fit to be a manager). I'm  little bit of a control-freak...so I posted on some of the Facebook pages that I subscribe to like; "The Blog Loft" and "Share your Blog Posts" that I was going to start offering free blog design (only on blogger, for now). Anyway, it was like a huge rush of emails came in, probably because it's free haha but still, it's something I love to do which is why I don't charge for it. Now, there is moderation in all things so if this ends up taking up a lot of my time, on top of my two jobs, I might have to start charging (a very small amount), and I'll add this option to my blog so you can email me as well if you're wanting to change something up on your blog. I TRY to learn how to do everything when it comes to blog design, but like I said, I'm not a professional. I didn't go to school for it, I don't have a degree in it, I don't do it full time, and I don't have access to a lot of the things that someone who charges, does.

Anyway, back to what this post is about, it's only been a week since I've started adding these two things into my schedule that I enjoy doing & I feel like a different person!
 So if there's anything that you take away from this post it should be these three things;

Life is way too short to not be doing what we love to do.

  1. Beautiful post! I'm glad you found ways to include doing things that you love in your daily life. I too find that I don't mind one bit working late into the night if I'm doing something that I truly love.
